Nerd rock aficionados Weezer return this year with their newest studio record. Following the highly mixed reviews their preceding CD (Raditude) received, what's in store on Weezer's new album, Hurley?

1) Memories

An okay power-pop track with a captivating chorus, and quintessentially simple Weezer lyrics. Featuring support vocals by Johnny Knoxville and friends!

2) Ruling Me

Sometimes the more recent Weezer tracks have been slammed for being too shallow, and this tune is very unlikely to allay that criticism. Nevertheless, it's superb for what it is: a simple, high energy pop-rock track.

3) Trainwrecks

This is a darker, more indulgent, slower tune with magnificent crunchy guitars and expressive hooks.

4) Unspoken

Coolest song on the album. Opening up as a mild and tender acoustic tune, with a bit of atmospheric flute, it ends with some intense guitar!

5) Where's my sex?

Here is a dirtier song, but just with regards to the sound; not the lyrics. It ain't about sex, strangely, it's about socks. Somewhat uninspired, but the bridge is cool.

6) Run Away

Dark and emotional song, with an angsty, almost angry vibe. The most emotional track on the record, recorded with Ryan Adams.

7) Hold On

Excellent demonstration of pop-rock. The catchy repetition of the melody hijacks your grey matter and sucks you along with it.

8 ) Smart Girls

Tracks such as this are perhaps why Weezer lyrics get criticised. You'll either really enjoy it or hate it. Fluffy, generic and feels manufactured.

9) Brave New World

This track has some spirit to it, but doesn't manage to get anywhere. OK, but not great.

10) Time Flies

Feels almost like a demo, a cool track to sing along with. A cute little song with a different feel to the other songs of the CD.

Score: 6.5 / 10

In conclusion, a major improvement on the last CD. A good, fun pop record, if not cutting edge or striking.
